AmCham Ethiopia hosted its second networking event on 6th of May 2022 at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The event was well attended by invited guests comprised of American and local companies, private sector business executives, Government representatives and the diplomatic community.
In his opening remark, AmCham board president and Managing director to East Africa Bottling S.C., Daryl Wilson extended his warm welcome to the attendants of the session. He stated that AmCham is collaborating closely with its member companies and the relevant Government agencies to address top challenges that the FDI community members are facing. The president mentioned that, as newly elected president, he had the chance to meet with the member companies along with Hana Alem, AmCham General Manager, to learn the practical operation of the member companies and their challenges. As this kind of continuous engagement is crucial to strategize ways to tackle members’ challenges and deliver more efficient services, he encouraged member company representatives to proactively communicate with AmCham.
Country leader to General Electric and AmCham Treasurer Selam Amare, addressed the crowd and presented the revised AmCham membership tier that will enable the prospective members to identify their membership options and the benefits they will get on each tier. She stated the revised membership options will present more opportunities for members and will help AmCham expand its reach by being more inclusive.
According to Selam, the latest membership packages are categorized in to four levels. These categories of membership are Patron, Corporate, Associate and U.S alumni. The patron membership is the new addition for qualified members and the U.S. Alumni is also newly added option to provide an opportunity for U.S. College graduate individuals to join AmCham, attend Networking events and engage with member companies. Mr. Hiroki Sayama, AmCham Board Vice President, and Boeing Africa Representative on his part introduced Hyatt Regency, General Electric and Coca Cola as the first companies that upgraded their membership from corporate to Parton level. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of the member companies and board of directors to BGI Ethiopia and Coca Cola soft drinks for making the networking event a success by partnering with AmCham.
He further outlined the upcoming events and trainings that are planned by AmCham Ethiopia. According to Mr. Hiroki Amcham Ethiopia will be hosting an Executive Breakfast Forum on the 26th of May 2022 at Hyatt Regency Hotel Addis Ababa from 8am to 11am. The forum will focus on challenges and opportunities of Ethiopia Taxation System.
Policy makers and tax experts will share their experience and perspective on the issue, and it will be a good platform for AmCham members to learn more about the Tax system and identify areas where their business operation can benefit. The Vice president also announced the upcoming AmCham training session which will focus on Leadership skills scheduled for Tuesday, May 31st, 2022, at AmCham office. This training will be organized in collaboration with Addis Hesabe Consulting firm.
